Emotional balance

5 Points for Emotional Balance

The way in which people live nowadays is far removed from what is really natural. The city demands and facilitates everything that goes against the nature of the human being and therefore against an emotional balance of all kinds. Such as long working hours; jobs that force people to stay up late; constant noise; visual overstimulation; bombardment of information; tight schedules; sedentary lifestyles; excessive use of technological media; artificial foods that do not provide the nutrients the body needs.

All this and the city lifestyle in general means that we constantly fall into an emotional imbalance, which is ultimately the result of this denaturalisation.

In recent times, many people have noticed this situation and therefore the word stress has become very fashionable. And so have the medicines against it. For example: meditation, yoga and many other techniques that aim at mental, emotional and physical relaxation. However, it would be interesting to know that there are small things that each of us can do on a daily basis to help maintain emotional balance, relieve stress and avoid falling into the dreaded depression.

Here are 5 points to help maintain emotional balance:

  • Living in the moment:

During the day try to be attentive to what we are doing, to that moment, to that place and to ourselves. In this way we can achieve a serene mind. This in turn will help us to minimise worries. For the mind with constant thoughts makes problems appear bigger to ourselves. Besides, better than worrying is taking care of it when the time comes.

  • Go to nature:

At least once a week, go to nature, to the countryside, to a stream, to the mountains, to the beach, or wherever we can find nature, solitude and silence.

In that place take a few minutes to be alone, walk barefoot, sit on the grass, without thinking about anything, enjoying the moment. And just let the harmony of nature, that silence or those sounds, the wind, the animals, the river, repair our body and help us to feel calm.

  • Oxygenate the body:

Before going to sleep, take a few minutes of deep breaths, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. When inhaling, hold your breath for a few moments before exhaling to improve gas exchange. Stay focused during the process.

Oxygenation of the body produces great benefits for the whole organism. In this case, it can help us to relax the body for a better rest. In addition, the feeling of well-being that we feel will help us to fall asleep in a state of harmony. And therefore wake up the next day with a more positive energy to start the day.

  • Selecting what we see on TV, mobile phones, etc..:

Watching news programmes for too long affects our emotional centre by generating unnecessary anguish and worry.

Films, series or novels that are too melancholic also affect the emotional balance. When we watch them, sadness, melancholy and sometimes even tears are generated in us. This gradually leads to an imbalance in our emotions due to excessive wear and tear.

Also violent series and films, as well as electronic games, are harmful. These produce constant adrenaline rushes that unbalance the whole organism, the nervous system and therefore the emotions.

  • Walking:

At least three times a week, take an hour for a pleasant walk. Always bearing in mind the first point of living in the moment and enjoying the moment.

The exercise of walking activates the whole body in a balanced way, without forcing it. It produces blood circulation and the exercise itself causes the body to return to a more relaxed state.

The root of the imbalance

These little tips are only a sample of all that the Gnostic wisdom has to give us. And they can be good practice for someone who wants to begin to really take charge of their existence. They are real changes that each of us can make to improve the quality of our lives. But the one who wants to go further can discover the very root of the state he or she is in. The one who goes further can understand the origin of emotional imbalance, the origin of pain, sadness, anxiety and all the negative states of oneself. And he can also learn how to eliminate these causes and obtain a constant and lasting emotional balance.
